Jamia Hamdard Library System
The University Library is one of the oldest academic institutions, established by the great visionary, the late Chancellor Hakeem Abdul Hameed (1908-1999), in 1977. In 1992, it was renamed the Hakeem Mohammed Said Central Library (HMSCL) in honour of the founder's younger brother. The Jamia Hamdard Library System consists of the HMSCL and six school libraries. The School Libraries include:
• Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR)
• School of Chemical and Life Sciences (SCLS)
• School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Technology (SIST)
• School of Nursing Science and Allied Health (SNSAH)
• School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (SPER)
• School of Unani Medical Education and Research (SUMER)
The HMSCL is housed in a distinctive, round building, renowned both for its architectural elegance and its extensive collection. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, the library provides a serene environment ideal for study and research, making it a prominent landmark within the university.
Library Collections and Resources:
• Manuscripts: The library houses more than 3,700 handwritten manuscripts and rare collections, preserving valuable knowledge and cultural heritage.
• Book Collection: The HMS Central Library has about 2 lakh volumes of books.
• Book Bank Facility: A dedicated Book Bank offers essential textbooks to students on a long-term loan basis, supporting their academic needs.
• Institutional Repository: The library maintains an Institutional Repository which may be accessed at https://repository.jamiahamdard.edu. The repository includes manuscripts, books published by Jamia Hamdard, rare books, rare newspapers, convocation speeches, previous year question papers, etc.).
The HMS Central Library continues to serve as a vibrant academic hub, fostering knowledge creation and dissemination within Jamia Hamdard (Hamdard University). HMSCL is committed to ensuring that all university resources are consolidated under one system, providing users with easy access to these resources whenever needed.
Library Working Hours:
The office hours of the library are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
However, the HMS Central Library remains open to users every day of the year, except on the following six holidays: Republic Day (26 January), Independence Day (15 August), Gandhi Jayanti (2 October), Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and Diwali.
